Cosmetic gum shaping is also known as crown lengthening. Our periodontist may suggest this treatment if you have too much gum tissue, or what is known as a “gummy” smile. This problem can make your teeth appear short or stubby because they are surrounded by too much gum tissue. It can also occur as the result of damage to a tooth that occurs close to the gumline. You may also be a candidate for this treatment if your gumline is uneven.
During a cosmetic gum shaping treatment, our periodontist will remove a small amount of gum tissue to reveal more of the tooth and increase the aesthetics of your smile. We can provide you with a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable, and in most cases, this treatment can be completed in a single visit to our office.
If you have noticed that you have a gummy smile or an uneven gumline, call our office today and schedule your appointment with our periodontist.
